The Swedish Artist EmmaLina

 About

I'm Emma Lina, a Swedish artist based in Gothenburg.

I've always been happiest when I'm creating. Sometimes that means painting. Other times it's building something at home, cooking for family and friends, or heading out into nature in search of new experiences. I've simply never been very good at standing still.

I grew up in a large creative family where making things by hand was part of everyday life. Building, painting and creating were always around me, and that curiosity has stayed with me ever since.

Today I run my art practice full time and handle almost every part of the process myself. From building my own stretcher frames and stretching the canvas to developing each painting layer by layer, I enjoy being involved from the very beginning to the finished piece.

When I'm not in the studio, you'll most likely find me outdoors. The sea, forests and mountains help me slow down, clear my mind and often become the starting point for new ideas. I love travelling, discovering new places and bringing those experiences back into my work.

I also love gathering people around a table. Good food, a glass of wine and long conversations are just as important to me as the quiet hours I spend painting.

For me, creativity isn't just something I do. It's the way I choose to live.

My work

My paintings rarely begin with a place.

They begin with a feeling.

It might be the changing light over the ocean, the calm after a long hike, or a quiet moment that makes everything else fade into the background.

That's the feeling I try to capture.

One of the things that fascinates me most is how light changes a painting. The same artwork can feel completely different depending on the time of day, the season or the room it's placed in. That's why I work in layers, allowing each piece to keep changing together with its surroundings.

I don't want to tell people exactly what they should see.

I want my work to invite them to pause, look a little longer and discover something new each time they return.

Medium: Mixed media and acrylic on canvas.
